What is google sandbox ?
Google sandbox is a filter placed on new websites as a result of which a site does not receive good ranking for its most important keyword or phrase even with good content a site is may still significantly affected by the sandbox effect .
A site is a sand boxed when it is new and does not rank for the keyword phrases that are not incredible competitive in google .
The google sandbox theory is that
Google puts new websites into a “Sandbox” before they can rank well in a Google
search and make their way to the top of a search result. Google wants to make
sure that a website is legitimate and not just a fly-by-night website that was
set up with bad intentions before it ranks it prominently on the SERP (search
engines results page). The theory is used to explain why newly-registered
domains or domains that change ownership hands frequently rank poorly no matter
how well they are optimized.
Websites
need to prove that they are worthy of ranking, which takes time. In order to
gain search engine trust over time a website should produce quality content that
will generate natural inbound links and social media activity (shares, likes,
comments, etc.). As a site ages and it begins to earn this trust, it improves
the chances that the site will be taken “out of the sandbox”.
Of
course, the Google Sandbox Effect is only a theory that has been developed by
SEOs over the years. Google has not confirmed or acknowledged this which means
that the Sandbox Effect has not been clearly proven. However it continues to be
believed by many webmasters since brand new websites continue to take time to
rank prominently.
While it may be
frustrating if your site is in this so-called “Sandbox”, the purpose is clear.
Google does not want spam sites to quickly reach the top of the search results.
If it was easy to get to the top, spammers would continually just buy a new
domain. It would also mean that webmasters would put up a quick site for a
specific promotion and then that site would become irrelevant once the
promotion was over, even if the site was still showing up in search.
How
do I get out quickly from Google sandbox effect?
The
easiest way is to focus on creating plenty of good quality content.
Although
Google has never acknowledged the sandbox effect it is known that all new
websites do appear to be stalled in their SERPs after a period. This is
probably due to a number of factors, which as soon as you address this will
move you on your way;
1. Low
level of content - limited amount
2. Lack of
articles on similar themes i.e. low level of authority
3. Lack of
links (all related to limited content)
4. Lack of
a social presence (new site will evolve over time)
How
long ago was your website submitted/indexed?
Barring
any recent submissions, here is what you need to take a look at:
1. Keywords
- does each one of your pages have a focus on at least one keyword? Are
you using that keyword in the title of the page/heading of your posts?
Are you using keywords as part of your anchor text, alt tags and utilize meta
tags? But don't spam keywords or your pages/posts will be flagged as
spam.
2. Content
- Content, content, content! Each page should have a minimum of 300 - 500
words, preferably more in order for Google and other search engines to be able
to tell what your page is about and indexes it properly or simply flags it as
duplicate content. If it is duplicate content, delete it!
3. Social
Media - If you are not already using social media, START! If you are
using social media and you have it set up to syndicate content or even just
manually submit the content, make sure that it has links going back to your
pages, posts and offers. This also starts the ball rolling with building
quality back-links.
4. Meta -
Include meta descriptions for at least all of your main pages, preferably for
every page and post you publish. This gives the search engines additional
fodder to weight the importance of your website and to display it in results.
5. Page
Load Speeds - If it takes forever for your page to load, it doesn't matter how
much groovy content you got, Google is not going to list you very high in any
search results.
6. Localize
- if you business only services a specific location, region, nation or
language, be sure that you include that in your keyword/SEO efforts. This
will jump you up in the search results faster than a 1,000 ferrets submitting
your website to search engines every day.
7. Blog -
if you don't have a blog, GET ONE!!! Blog often, three to five times per
week for at least six months, but make sure that it is great content that
people want to consume!
